Health insurance: so it’s not a secret key to a healthy life – Business Insider

This is the second in a series of articles about health insurance in the United States among adults aged 18 to 64. The one revealed that health insurance and health outcomes that are not related.

WASHINGTON, DC–Americans who have health insurance have healthy behavior index value that is higher than any in insurance at age 18 to 64 cohort. This is true even after controlling for age, gender, education, ethnicity, occupation and income.

Overall, 80% of American adults younger than 65 have health insurance. This analysis is based on an estimated 200,000 interviews conducted between January and October 2011 as part of the Gallup-Healthways well-being index, including index of healthy behavior as sub-component.

In particular, respondents were asked to report whether they smoked, on how many days a week they run for at least 30 minutes, if they eat healthy all day long “yesterday”, and on how many days they consumed five or more servings of fruits and veges in the last 7 days.
The Insured

Gallup results show the insured Americans are more likely than insurers to do so. Them with health coverage is much less likely than those who did said they smoked.
